Digimon Data Squad Review

In Between Digimon Frontier and Digimon Data Squad there was a 4 year gap in Japan and a 6 year gap in America. This season is surprisingly the most mature and has a men in black vibe to it. However episode 7 is one of the most controversial edits of all time. In episode 7, Touma or Thomas in the dub faces off against one of two Digimon. In the Japanese version he faces off against Bomber Nanimon. In the dub, he faces off against Citramon. This probably got changed due to the 9/11 Terrorist attack.

There’s a lot of easter eggs to past seasons in this but it’s not the best but it’s certainly better than Frontier.

Sam’s Sentai Seasons recommended for beginners

If you watched Power Rangers growing up and have never seen Super Sentai this blog post will give you some recommendations for seasons to start out with. You can check out sentai at Kissasian or by checking your local library. Here are the best beginning seasons I recommend:

Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger

Do these guys look familiar? Well they should! Zyuranger was the first season to be adapted into Power Rangers! While Zyuranger does get a little weird at times just like with power rangers you have to crank your suspension of disbelief up to 11. Still the familiar costumes will help your nostalgia goggles kick in The familarity of it all is a great place to start.

Choujin Sentai Jetman

Jetman is considered by many to be the best season of super sentai. Myself included. While I do consider it the best, it’s not my favorite. Jetman and seasons before this are what’s known as the Pre-Zyu era. Jetman is a military themed sentai despite the rangers being based off of birds. The villains are actually what make this season worth it. The music is amazing and I think the only nitpick I have is the love triangle. But this blog is spoiler free so I won’t dive into anything so you have nothing to worry about.

Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters

Any Power Rangers fan worth their salt knows the phrase, “It’s Morphin’ Time!” this season has a lot of power rangers references. I challenge you to spot them all. If you’re one of the people who liked Power Rangers RPM, this is definitely for you. While I haven’t seen Beast Morphers I do know it’s more or less the sequel to RPM. Go-Buster is another military sentai but the spy aspect it

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is one of those seasons that should NOT have been adapted into power rangers. This season is heavily rooted in Japanese culture. If you enjoy Japanese culture, grab a plate of sushi and get started. This season has everything: interesting characters, it knows when to be serious and when to be funny. As well as some twists and turns you don’t see coming and a great set of villains.

Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger

If you like fast paced action anime like Naruto or Bleach, then you’ll like Gekiranger. Gekiranger is a sentai season that has the “In the beginning we were 3” ruleand is one of the best sentai seasons to do this without getting overwhelming. The villains are enjoyable and my only nitpick is the dialect of the red ranger. It’s not like we’re dealing with Fran Drescher but after 50 episodes it gets grating but it’s not completely terrible.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger

Hear me out on this one! Gokaiger is a season that you might want to watch with a friend who knows a little more about Super Sentai. That way you know some of the easter eggs. Super Sentai has been around since the 70s. Japan acknowledges power rangers and there’s even easter eggs to them in there. Gokaiger does have its flaws but it’s an anniversary season. What’s the main theme of Gokaiger? Pirates!

Gosei Sentai Dairanger

If you like episodic shows like Dragon Ball Z, this is the perfect sentai for you. This season also explores Chinese mythology. It’s also where we got the thunder zords from season 2 of Mighty Morphin and all that. Dairanger does take time to get off the ground as does most 90s Sentai but when it does, it does get the ball riolling. These days the giant mech is revealed in the first episode. But let’s talk about something. The reason I mentioned a lot of seasons that were in cannon with Power Rangers is because that’s what most fans know aside from Jetman. Are there seasons from the Pre-Zyu Era that I recommend? We’ll have to look at those another time…

To be continued….

Sam’s speculations for Cobra Kai Season 4

Ok I want to say 4 simple words: I Love Cobra Kai! The first season is pretty much Johnny’s story. He fell into hard times after the events of the first movie. He works as a handy-man and is fired. After getting arrested for assaulting some teenagers, Johnny is given a car free of charge and is involved when Johnny’s rival’s daughter Sam wrecks his car. Season 3 of Cobra Kai ends with Johnny’s school, Eagle Fang Karate teaming up with Miyagi-Do Karate to stop Cobra Kai Karate for the all valley tournament with John Kreese having the edge on Johnny as he’s brainwashed Johnny’s son Robby. So what will happen in Season 4? The following blog contains guesses. What I’m writing is only theories of what MIGHT happen. Nothing in this blog is cannon, these are just guesses. So take what I write with a grain of salt

Jacob Bertrand as Hawk

Hawk will die

Eli Moskowitz better known as Hawk when he was first introduced was a meek student whose only friend was Dimitri. As he stayed with Cobra Kai, his behavior became violent and aggressive. In a moment of selflessness in Season 3, Dimitri was being attacked by Cobra Kai students and Hawk decided to defend Dimitri. So why do I think Hawk will die? I can easily see Kreese getting ahold of some documents regarding Hawk’s medical records. Before his transformation to Hawk, Eli had a harelip above of his upper lip as the result of a surgery. Kreese will blackmail Hawk and show him no mercy and told him that he’s of no use to Johnny or Daniel and kill him.

Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso

Daniel will get a divorce

Because Johnny brought back Cobra Kai, Daniel started training in Karate again. Let’s say hypothetically Hawk does die, Daniel might blame himself and it might cause Daviel to lose something valuable and I narrowed it down to either him getting a divorce, something happening to his daughter Sam or both. Let’s say that Hawk does die and Daniel starts to blame himself, Amanda tells him that she’s tired of all of this and he’s not acting like the person she marries and files for a divorce from Daniel.

Mary Mouser as Sam LaRusso

Sam’s fate

In the first two seasons of Cobra Kai, Samantha LaRusso was pretty much Daniel’s little princess. Everything Sam wanted she got. In Season 3 she actually proves she’s not a princess and does get a bit of a character arc. So do I think Sam needs to die? No. In the finale of Season 2, Miguel is left with an injury which left him paralyzed. I want Sam to have something like a brain injury to happen. Something she won’t be able to recover from as easily as Miguel recovered from in Season 3. Miguel’s road to recovery was earned but it happened too quickly. Samantha needs to have something in her life that she can’t swipe away with Daniel’s credit card

Miguel will become a sensei and find out about Johnny and Carmen

Xolo Mariduena as Miguel Diaz

When we’re first introduced to Miguel in Cobra Kai, he’s shy, sweet and being raised by his mom and grandmother. Eventually what I want to see is Miguel starting his own dojo or inheriting a dojo and becoming the lead sensei after he graduates from high school. He finds out that Johnny is Carmen’s boyfriend and instead of getting mad at Johnny, he gives them his blessing and Johnny after Kreese’s defeat appoints him lead sensei of the dojo which brings me to my final point…

Johnny will reconcile with Robby

William “Billy” Zabka as Johnny Lawrence

One of the best things about Cobra Kai is it’s from Johnny’s point of view. So it only seems fitting the end all be all be a fight against Daniel and Johnny reconciling with his estranged son. As someone who has estranged relatives, I have my reasons but I digress. Cobra Kai has been about humanizing the bully and showing that Johnny didn’t have the silver spoon in his mouth like we thought. In the first Karate Kid, Johnny’s just seen as a generic jerk but Cobra Kai shows that there’s good in Johnny and Daniel isn’t Mr. Perfect protagonist. So what will happen to John Kreese? I think eventually the FBI will be interested to know that he faked his death

Again I want to point out everything I said here isn’t necesarily going to happen in season 4. What are your speculations for season 4? Write some of yours in the comments below. If you like what you see here and would like another speculation blog, let me know!

The ups and downs of the Covid-19 Pandemic

On March 11, 2020, the world announced the worldwide Carona Virus pandemic. To someone like me who’s outgoing and friendly, I had a hard time in the beginning stages. Everything was shut down, everyone had to remain 6 feet apart and wear face masks in public. This is my story as well as the ups and downs I faced along the way. For me the hardest thing was just staying home. However some good came out of the pandemic as well.

I had a breakup in May and after thinking about it I realized that I am bisexual. As for my life post coming out, that’s a story for another day. But I do feel a lot less constricted now. I think the best coming out scenes are from Bohemian Rhapsody and Love, Victor. Sure I have faced some negative stigma but I got a lot more help.

The other good thing is I adopted a lab mix named Raven who walks like a panther. The rescue shelter we got her from found her abandoned in Texas.

For me the biggest disappointment came from the fact that JK Rowling revealed to the world that she’s transphobic. Although the good news is the world’s pretty much disowned her since she revealed this.

Stargirl Movie Review

Stargirl is a Disney+ exclusive movie for you guessed it. Disney+. To call this a movie is like calling Beyond or Impossible an actual meat. The book is very loosely based on Jerry Spinelli’s book of the same name. Here are some positives I will say. They did cast actual teenagers so you don’t have 20 somethings playing teenagers. The problem is the acting is garbage! This just seems to be 2 hours of blah so that the main female lead can sing on occasion. The message of be yourself is done millions of times better in so many other movies.

To anyone who enjoyed the book. Keep the images in your head. The movie has almost no soundtrack and basically it’s 2 hours of absolute nothing. Is it bad? Yes! Is it G-d Awful? No. Even though it’s not a good movie, it’s not harmless. All and all just read the book and forget about watching the movie.

The Simpsons Season 29 Review

2 Actors on the Simpsons to play themselves and a fictional character are Mark Hamill and Daniel Radcliffe. Honestly, this season didn’t have a memorable episode. I wanted to like it but I didn’t. Not a single episode. Luckily I only spent two days on this season, Now I’m off to do something else because I have nothing nice to say about this season.

Red Flags about Albus Dumbledore

Harry Potter: Why Michael Gambon Is The Best Dumbledore (& Why It'll Always Be Richard Harris)

In the 4th Chapter of Philosopher/Sorcerer’s Stone, Hagrid name drops Albus Dumbledore for the first time. This Headmaster of Hogwarts is either senile or just plain picking favorites. Here are all the things that might cause Dumbledore to be in trouble.

Instances in Sorcerer’s stone

He allowed the Dursley’s to abuse Harry

Before we learn Harry is magical, Dumbledore leaves a freshly orphaned Harry on the doorstep of Vernon and Petunia. While they could easily lie to a social worker about Harry, Dumbledore could easily realize that Harry was being abused by his aunt and uncle and step in.

Taking advantage of Snape

While you can’t deny that Snape abused Harry just because he looked a lot like James. Dumbledore took advantage of Snape’s lust for Lily in order to employ him. Snape was probably guilt ridden about Lily’s death but because of the mudblood comment was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Allowing Harry to compete in the Tri Wizard Tournament

Dumbledore made it clear that he didn’t want anyone under 17 to compete. Yet after Harry’s name is pulled from the Goblet of Fire, he just goes whatever and allows him to compete. Even if he does question Harry in the beginning. The only one concerned for his safety is McGonagall. McGonagall puts it best in the movie that he’s not a piece of meat. Of course there’s the ultimate meme from the movie

Not seeing through Barty Crouch’s Disguise

The biggest plot twist of Goblet of Fire is that Mad-Eye Moody is Barty Crouch Jr. in disguise. He should have been suspicious since he did the 3 unforgivable curses in classes.

Not vouching for Sirius Black’s innocence

This is a big one! He probably knew that Sirius was innocent, but why would he allow Peter Pettigrew to get off Scott Free? Harry went through hell and back during his time at Hogwarts. So why didn’t he protest for Sirius?

Giving Harry the Invisibility cloak

During his first year at Hogwarts, Harry is given the invisibility cloak by an unnamed gift giver. But giving an 11 year old a deathly hallow, dangerous!

Letting Harry get off scott-free with all his rule breaking

G-d knows how many rules Harry broke at Hogwarts. Chamber of Secrets is where he’s the worst but he and Ron get 200 points each for defeating the basilisk. McGonagall seems to call him out on it but lets him get away with it when necessary. Granted he was standing up for Neville when he was getting his rembrall from Malfoy.

Those are just some examples that come to mind. Let me know if there are some down in the comments I missed.

On being an autistic Jew: Realizing that I’m bisexual

It’s been a while since I posted one of these blogs but I decided that I wanted to do for all those who struggle with gender identity or sexual orientation. I believe that sexual orientation is not 100% all the time. For me being bi, it was something I noticed but didn’t act on. In college I had to take a human sexuality course and was in a dysfunctional relationship. I graduated college in 2014 with an associate’s and 10 leadership conferences under my belt. 3 years later I swam 2 miles and in Thanksgiving 2017 I started keeping track of the books I read.

One of the books I read was The Portrait of Dorian Gray. It’s about a good looking guy who commits countless sins. The more sins he commits the more his portrait decays. This was the book that reawakened my thoughts. I had to be absolutely certain. I interviewed my cousin Steven who I found out is gay after my aunt passed away. The things we have in common besides blood is our humor, love for Movies and Harry Potter.

After JK Rowling’s little transphobic rant, I realized that I am Bi and not just an ally. Sure I’m more attracted to women, but if I had a boyfriend it wouldn’t freak my friends who are conservatives out. As the time of this blog, I’m currently single. Telling my cousin was the easiest because even though he doesn’t live in Seattle,

I have received a little whiplash coming out but most of it has been positive. The hardest people to tell were my friend Nelson because he’s a registered Republican and one of my friends from my birthright tour. Luckily one of my friends I know from PR has been really helpful and just told me that if someone is cynical or skeptical about it, it’s on them.

Would I like to be dating again? Yes and no. I’m waiting until the pandemic dies down even further. Right now we’re in phase 3 here in Seattle As I wear glasses, this pandemic is a nightmare for me because the masks cause my glasses to fog up and trigger my claustrophobia.

I want to end this on a positive note, coming out as anything will show you who your real friends are. Just watch
